Heat (1995)


Scene: Hanna, a career cop, tracks down McCauley, a career thief suspected of preparing a big heist  Hanna pulls him over on the freeway, before inviting him to coffee.


This one is hard for two reasons. One the whole movie is built up to this point, the two most respected characters in this film and arguably, in the acting world, finally meeting face-face, for the first time. Two because the song used was specifically made for Heat. It is a great composition, but I thought it sounded dated, cliché, and stiff. A band like Soundgarden who encapsulates the raw energy and awesomeness needed for this moment while still sounding fresh. The tension and pulsating rhythm sync well with the high-octane cat and mouse game on display. *Disclaimer I am a big Soundgarden fan. RIP Chris Cornell
